John Wesley
John Wesley, an ordained Anglican Minister, had a dramatic spiritual conversion on May 24, 1738.
Inspired to start preaching the saving message of Christ across England,
he became famous
for his "field preaching". Presenting God's truth to up to 13,000 at a time
Wesley was used by the Lord to bring many more to salvation. Wesley's followers started forming small groups
called "societies" in which they obtained more spiritual training and guidance. These societies were seen as a threat by the Church of England, Wesley was forced to leave the Church. These societies eventually formed into the "Methodist Church" after the death of John Wesley. The term "Methodists" originally used as a slur against the group because of the methodical approach to studying and living.
Free Methodism
When Methodism came to America, churches and annual conferences spread across the land. In 1860,
in western New York the Free Methodist Church came into being under the
leadership of BT Roberts. Issues that were
important to them included opposition to slavery in America. Another issue in that time was the
widespread practice of renting and selling church pews, thus relegating the poor to benches in
the back of the sanctuary. "Free" Methodists called for free seats for all and emphasized tithes
and offerings to support the church's ministries. Freedom worship, in contract to deadening formalism,
was also import to "Free" Methodists.Congregation History
Warren Road Free Methodist Church is proud of its long history. God has blessed us with great people and a great church that you will find welcoming and friendly.
In the 1920's Arley Downer purchased a small church building at the Corner of Ford and Inkster, which became known as the Nankin Township Free Methodist Church. God grew the church and it flourished at this location until the 1950's.

With enough growth and the need for a new facility they moved to Inkster and Maplewood in 1957 and became known as the Garden City Free Methodist Church. The congregation enjoyed the stay there where God blessed them richly.
In 1990 the small church took a large step of faith and purchased new land at our current location near the corner of Warren and Farmington roads in Westland Michigan. During the 1990's the church was blessed with large numerical growth and a great outreach to the community.
Since then Warren Road Church has continued to grow and experience God's blessing. Currently pastored by David Powless the church is focused on reaching the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Known to the community as "the church with two steeples", God has provided us with a new sanctuary that was finished in 2004.
With a long history and a Christ centered message, you are welcome to become part of what God is doing at Warren Road Church!
